Sino-French Educational Synergy: Tsinghua IHM and ESCMT Business School Launch Integrated Master's and Doctoral Programs in Healthcare Administration

🎉 In an era of accelerating transformation in the global healthcare industry and an increasing demand for various management talent, a milestone moment has arrived for Sino-French higher education cooperation. Recently, the Institute for Hospital Management of Tsinghua University (IHM) and ESCMT Business School in France officially announced that both parties will leverage their advantages in academic research, industrial resources, and elite management training respectively to launch a jointe programme which aims to cultivate advanced talents for healthcare management. 🎉


This cooperation marks a further acceleration of Tsinghua University on its internationalization in the domain of healthcare management education. Following partnerships with Yale University in the United States and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom, it officially considers France — the world's third healthcare powerhouse—into the core of its international strategy. This initiative also provides a "dual-engine" platform connecting Europe and Asia for international students aspiring to gain both top-tier academic backgrounds and global business perspectives.



I. Academic Endorsement from Tsinghua: Defining a New Height in Healthcare Management Education

The Institute for Hospital Management (IHM) of Tsinghua University, established in 2012, was China’s first and remains its most historic institution dedicated to healthcare management. Based on Tsinghua University's profound academic foundations, IHM is devoted to cultivate industry leaders who are not only capable of addressing the challenges of modern healthcare systems but also possess a global perspective.


  • First Professional Master's Degree: At the 37th meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 2022, Tsinghua University was approved to establish a new Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) professional degree authorization point. This is also the first professional master's degree being authorized for healthcare management in China.

  • Academic Reputation: The program is based at the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS), deeply integrating the technological innovation genes of Shenzhen, known as "China’s Silicon Valley."

  • Top-tier Faculty: The program boasts a faculty team led by 15 full-time teachers with profound industry backgrounds. Their research areas cover core sectors such as healthcare policy, hospital strategy, smart healthcare, and biopharmaceutical innovation.

II. Integrated Master-PhD Pathway: Cultivating "Technology + Management" T-Shaped Talents

III. Admissions for the Class of 2026 Officially Open

According to the latest admissions guidelines, the application portal for international students and related collaborative programs for the 2026 intake is now officially open.

Major: Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)

Cultivation Mode: Both full-time and part-time options are available, with a standard duration of 2 years.

Application Timeline: November 15, 2025 – May 31, 2026.


Program 1: Part-time

  • Diploma: Tsinghua University Graduation Diploma + Degree Certificate (Part-time)

  • Target Audience: Non-Chinese citizens

  • Admission Requirements: Bachelor's degree

  • Program Duration: Two years (The first year consists of courses at SIGS; the second year involves returning to the home country for internship and thesis)

  • Study Location: Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS)

  • Visa Requirements: Currently open only to citizens of countries eligible for China's visa-free policy.


Program 2: Full-time

  • Certificates: Tsinghua University Graduation Diploma + Degree Certificate (Full-time)

  • Target Audience: Non-Chinese citizens

  • Admission Requirements: Bachelor's degree

  • Program Duration: Two years at SIGS

  • Study Location: Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS)

  • Visa Requirements: The university can issue visa supporting documents.


IV. Minimum Academic Standards

According to the Tsinghua University grading system, the performance during the undergraduate should meet the following requirements:

  • GPA: No less than 3.0/4.0

  • Average Score: No less than B or 80/100

  • UK Universities: Generally no less than a 2:1 Honors (Upper Second-Class Honors) degree

  • German Universities: No higher than 2.5/5.0 

  • French Universities: No less than 12/20


  1. Exceptions for Admission (Exceptional Criteria)


    For applicants from priority source countries, the criteria for exceptional admission are:


    (1) UK Universities: Generally no less than a 2:2 (Lower Second-Class Honors) degree

    (2) German Universities: No higher than 2.7/5.0

    (3) French Universities: No less than 10/20


  1. Reference to Major Global Rankings (THE, QS, US News, etc.):

    (1) For applicants from Top 200 universities in these rankings, world-renowned institutions, or top-tier national universities: GPA no less than 2.7/4.0.

    (2) For applicants from universities ranked outside the Global Top 200 but within the Top 10 of their respective countries (e.g., Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, etc.): GPA no less than 2.7/4.0.

  2. For Applicants Who Do Not Meet the Basic Academic Standards:

    Applicants who meet one or more of the following conditions may be considered for exceptional admission to the comprehensive evaluation stage. In such cases, the academic GPA must still be no less than 2.7/4.0:

    (1) Academic performance ranked within the top 20% of their major/department at their university.

    (2) Recipient of higher than university-level awards or honors.

    (3) Published papers in academic journals, or have granted patents.
